Technical Officials

Behind every great basketball game is a dedicated team of technical officials making sure everything runs smoothly. At Penrith Basketball Association, our technical officials play a vital role in delivering fair, safe, and enjoyable competitions for everyone involved.

Whether you’re looking to get involved, develop your skills, or simply understand the roles better, here’s everything you need to know.

What Are Technical Officials?

Technical officials are the people who ensure games are played correctly, safely, and in line with the rules. They work both on and off the court and are essential to every match played at Penrith.

Our technical officials include:

  • Referees

  • Referee Coaches

  • Scoretable Officials

  • Statisticians

Each role contributes to the game in a unique and important way.

Referees

Referees are at the heart of the game, responsible for enforcing the rules, managing gameplay, and ensuring a safe and fair environment for all players.

Becoming a referee is a fantastic way to stay involved in basketball, build confidence, and develop leadership skills. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to progress through the ranks, Penrith offers pathways and support to help you grow.

Referee Coaches

Referee coaches play a key role in developing and mentoring referees. They provide feedback, guidance, and support to help officials improve their skills and progress to higher levels of competition.

If you have experience as a referee and a passion for helping others succeed, becoming a referee coach is a rewarding way to give back to the game.

Scoretable Officials

Scoretable officials are responsible for managing the administrative side of the game. This includes operating the scoreboard, recording scores, fouls, and timeouts, and ensuring all game information is accurate and up to date.

This role is perfect for those who enjoy being part of the action while working in a structured and team-oriented environment.

Statisticians

Statisticians track and record in-game data such as player performance, scoring breakdowns, and key game metrics. Their work provides valuable insights for teams, coaches, and the association.

If you have an eye for detail and enjoy analysing the game, this is a great way to get involved.
